MTN Nigeria begins test run of 4G LTE services

Following the acquisition of Visafone by MTN in order to utilise its 800MHz spectrum to launch Fourth Generation Long Term Evolution (4G LTE) services, the giant telecommunication company proceeded with full integration of existing Visafone’s subscribers to its Global System of Mobile communication (GSM) platform. However, between then and now exists a significant time interval for one to have hoped that MTN should have accelerated plans to finally deploy the full service to use.

But finally, the wait has ended as MTN commences test running of the fourth generation long term evolution (4G LTE) internet technology service for smartphone users.

It is believed that the roll-out of the 4G LTE services would help provide superior high-speed internet services in major cities and also empower Nigerians with the latest mobile broadband technology.

Sharing her views on the service,  MTN executive, Amina Oyagbola, says “Our recent license acquisition further demonstrates our faith in the future of Nigeria,” “We believe in supporting the positive transformation of Nigeria and we have demonstrated this belief through the level of our investment since 2001, which currently stands at approximately $16 billion.” She adds.

Many inquisitive Nigerians have been quick to try their hands on the service to find out for themselves whether it corresponds in any way to the much-emphasised prospect. And going by hearsay and social media reactions, the service appears to be going back and forth. Hopefully, with time, MTN would fully figure it out and the feedback can be a lot more different.
