Emery hails PSG’s heart after ‘disappointing’ Nice draw.

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery was unhappy with his side’s 2-2 draw at home to Nice in Ligue 1 on Sunday, but was relieved his players showed “some heart” in their comeback from two goals down.
Wylan Cyprien and Alassane Plea gave Lucien Favre’s visitors a fortuitous 2-0 half-time lead, but an Edinson Cavani double saw the French champions fight back to earn a point at Parc des Princes.
Emery admitted “we are not happy with the result but I am happy with we way we played and fought back,” when speaking to the club’s official website after the match as the capital club were operating a press blackout believed to be in protest against severe recent criticism of the Spanish boss.
“The half-time score was very harsh but we were rewarded in the second half,” Emery said. “We did the best we could; we were patient and we came back into the game.
“Nice had two shots and scored two goals — that is football. We spoke a lot at the break and agreed we had to show some heart. That was the positive this evening.”
PSG midfielder Thiago Motta was also frustrated but conceded Nice had scored a great goal with their very first shot through Cyprien and that he and his teammates must review the game to continue to improve.
“It is frustrating to see your opponent have so few chances and score two goals,” the veteran Italian said. “Right from the start we looked to attack and play our football, do what we do best.
“We have to look at what we did well and what we need to improve. Like the coach said, we will have other opportunities to bounce back, starting with Lille in the Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday.”
Les Parisiens’ defender Marquinhos called the draw a genuine game of two halves, adding: “It is always hard conceding goals but we have to stay calm, keep working hard and do better next time.
“In the first half, we had the ball and chances to score but we were not clinical in attack or efficient in defence,” said the Brazil international. “Nice had two shots and scored two goals. We were better in the second half, the game changed and we scored.”
PSG remain four points behind Ligue 1 leaders Nice and three adrift of rampant second-placed AS Monaco as France’s title race heats up. Emery’s men have Guingamp and FC Lorient to come in Le Championnat before the winter break.
