Former Real Madrid Star Sentenced to 9 Years In Jail for Sexual Assault

Brazilian footballer Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison after he and five others were found guilty of sexually assaulting an Albanian girl in a Milan nightclub on January 22, 2013.

According to The Sun, Robinho committed the offence during his time at AC Milan. However, the 33-year-old, who now plies his trade in his homeland with Atletico Mineiro will have an opportunity to appeal the judgment.

This comes on the heels of reports that the Italian law system gives room for several levels of appeal before enforcing a sentence. But should Robinho lose his appeal, he would have to serve jail time in Italy. Robinho played for teams in Europe like Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan before deciding to return home and play for Atletico Mineiro.

In 2009, he was accused of sexual assault after he joined Man City for a then British transfer record of £32million. He was however cleared of the charges later.
